DEMAND FOR FARMS
POSITION IN TARANAKI While it cannot be said that the increasing prices of produce are causing ft keen demand for farm lands in the South Island there has been a noticeable revival in the enquiry, yalues, however, are generally beyond a figure that buyers are prepared to pay and ' which, would allow ;mcst holders: to sell without making a substantial. loss. The owners are looking forward to the enhanced prices enabling them to make up some of the leeway lost in the last three years. The better dairying prospects are having an effect in the Taranaki province. "There is a good demand for dairy farms by purchasers with, limited capital, but the owners are not prepared to meet them in view of the rising price of butter," said a New Plymouth land agent last week. Enquiries were being received from as far afield as Hamilton, Waitotara, Wellington, Dannevirke, and Napier, but the majority of prospective purchasers had too little capital. Few were prepared .to pay more than. £2OO in cash even on the highly-priced properties. Buyers wanted very easy terms. *They also desired to take over properties as going concerns, but the low prices they were ofleri&s did not tempt the owners. Others "wanted to lease farms, but were prepared to pay only small rentals. One of the most noticeable features ©f the enquiries was that many farmers were desirous of leaving the higher-priced South Taranaki property and coming to North Taranaki. Large numbers of the most recent enquiries were from the Manaia and Hawera district.
