LINWOOD AVENUE SCHOOL
The monthly meeting of the Linwood Avenue School Committee was held recently when all members were present. Mr T. Nut-tall was in the It was reported that the pupils oi Standard V. attended the board's reserve at New Brighton and planted 400 trees. The third term opened with a considerable influx of pupils, the roll number now being 320 boys and 295 girls, making a total of 615. During the term holidays the school suffered by death the loss of two girl pupils—Malvina Williams, who was in PA, and Lillian Jarvis, who was in Standard V. Accounts amounting to i-o us la 'were passed for payment. In the seven-a-side competition the boys under 11 were again successful in winning, after seven spells, against Woolston. This was the second year in succession that practically the same boys had won a grade competition. The school was represented in the primary schools' representative team by Mervyn Selwood. The school gardens were in good order. The thanks of the committee were due to Mr Brewer who pruned the roses, and to Mr J. Wilby, who named all the shrubs. The commutee has decided to hold a reunion dance in the Canberra Hall at which function it was hoped that an Old Pupils' Association would be formed.Mesrs Ives and McPherson were appointed a visiting committee for the month.
