Auckland—Heavy rain fell practically throughout the morning yesterday; but towards midday the weather cleared, and there was a moderately fine afternoon, with a slight southerly breeze. The barometer rose steadily throughout the day. Wellington—Cold and squally weather was experienced in Wellington yesterday. Conditions improved during the afternoon, however, and the southerly wind gradually decreased in intensity. Dunedin—Changeable weather and a light south-west wind prevailed in Dunedin yesterday. Light showers fell at intervals, and the sun made an occasional appearance. Conditions were again cold, the maximum temperature being 44 degrees. The barometer was fairly steady, registering 30.25 in last evening. FORECAST (From readings taken at 4 p.m. yesterday.) General Situation—An intense anticyclone is advancing across the Tasman Sea; but the cyclone which de-
| veloped last night in the far north is : centred to-day oil the East Cape. | Winds—Moderate to strong southerly, of gale force at places in the North Island, but decreasing gradually. I Seas (New Zealand waters)— Heavy | between Cook Strait and the East Cape, and in the South Taranaki i Bight; elsewhere rather rough to rough. Eastern Tasman Sea—Moderate to fresh, but decreasing southerly winds, with rather rough but moderating seas. Weather—Still unsettled in northern and eastern districts, with scattered showers, conditions gradually improving. Elsewhere fair to fine.
