A PLEA FOR SANITY
TO 111U r.UITOK 01' rac I'UB'JS j gii»—i agree with.your eoncbpon-j dent,'Mr T. E. Williamson, when lie : takes the Gospel ministers to task foi \ their upholding of war. They uchb • j deserve it. S °Man will continue to fight on until; humankind is pracUcatlr^'^crnnnated.. Mr Williamson has noted lhe u« Pic paration now m progress foi slaughter, largely of the civil P°P ll ", lation. The only explanau'on ol the , inhuman conduct of irum to hb ieuov. mail is given to us in the early chap-; ters of the Book o£ Genesis, where it; is recorded that Adam committed h im " ; i self and his posterity to the leader- ( ship of Satan and thenceforth had to journey through life without the Riding and controlling hand of God. Man without God" is. I contend, the only explanation of man s actions: and the peace that Mr Williamson longs for will onlv materialise when Jesus, the Prince of Peace, establishes His kingdom on earth and restores to mankind the state as it was in Eden. Your correspondent is quite wrong if he thinks that Ihe Christian religion is based on a heaped-up jumble of superstitions. It is not. If he will forget his atheism for a few hours and study the Acts of the Apostles as contained in the Bible he will learn how Christianity was founded not on old traditions but on a new revelation of salvation by faith in a crucified One. If Christianity could have been overthrown the mighty Saul of Tarsus would have accomplished its destruction. Much of the persecution that ' arose was on account of forsaking old customs and traditions and of turning the world upside down, as they termed . it. The Christian religion is a glorious reality, a blessed experience, and the indwelling of the believer by the Spirit of Jesus affords exquisite joy and pleasure. The peace which lie bc- ; stows passeth all understanding. De- ! stroy all the superstition, as your cori respondent terms God's Word, and the fruit of the redemptive work of Jesus will still appear. The story of the > Cross would still be told. —Yours, etc. ; PEACEFUL, j September 14, 1933.
