CURE OF NELSON ACCEPTED

♦ ARCHDEACON P. B. HAGGITT The Ven. P. B. Haggitt, Archdeacon of Christchurch and vicar of Merivale, announced at St. Mary's yesterday morning that he had accepted the cure of the cathedral parish of Nelson. Archdeacon Haggitt has served as vicar of Merivale for 18 years. He was born in Roslyn, Dunedin, in 1878, being the youngest son of Mr D'Arcy Haggitt, solicitor. Educated at the Otago Boys' High School and the University of Otago, he attained the degree of M.A. in 1902. At Selwyn College he passed the necessary theological grades and in 1903 was ordained and served in St. Michael's parish, Christchurch, when the present Archbishop was vicar In 1906 he worked in Chiswick parish, London. Returning to New Zealand he served as minor canon and assistant preacher at Christchurch Cathedral from 1907 to 1909 He was then appointed vicar of St Albans, where he worked for six years. In 1915 he became vicar of Merivale. He was appointed Archdeacon of Christchurch the same year. The Archdeacon will enter upon *»s work at Nelson on February 1. 1904. ; ' • : .
