HISTORICAL PAGEANT
WELLINGTON'S CONFIDENCE CARNIVAL A notable spectacle, in the form of a New Zealand historical pageant, on an unusually large scale, will be one of the main features of the confidence carnival to be held in Wellington in November. Between 400 and 500 persons, including about 100 Maoris, will take part in the pageant, which will illustrate important episodes in New Zealand history. These include such events as the arrival of the Rev. Samuel Marsden, the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi, and the arrival of the Wellington pioneers. Lantern slides will be used to show the contrast between the Dominion as it was and as it is now. The pageant is being organised by MiMaurice Ralph, formerly manager of the Theatre Royal, Christchurch. The scenario has been prepared by Dr. Guy Scholefield, and Messrs Johannes Andersen, Lindsay Buick, and James Cowan, who are the leading authorities on the history of the early days
of the Dominion.
