THE WEATHER

Meteorological observations taken at tho Magnetic Observatory, Cliristchurch, at U a.m. and 5 iJ.m. on September 9:—

Other Centres. Auckland—After gradually increasing since Friday, the north-east wind reached gale last night, and was blowing hard yesterday. Showers were experienced on. Saturday afternoon. Yesterday was overcast and threatening. The sea was very rough in the harbour. Wellington—Wellington basked in spring sunshine over the week-end. On both Saturday and Sunday the ! weather was ideal. The sun's warmth was tempered by a light breeze from the south. The evenings were mild and pleasant. Dunedin—ldeal spring weather was experienced in Dunedin on Saturday, and it was fine again yesterday, but there was a rather strong north-east wind blowing. The barometer fell a few points, and read 30.01 in last i evening. I. FORECAST (From readings taken at 4 p.m. yesterday.) General Situation—An intense anticyclone is still situated east of the Dominion, but a deep and complicated depression covers' the Tasman Sea. Winds—Strong north-easterly, of gale force in many places, changing at times to southerly in the North Island. Seas (New Zealand waters)— Heavy north of East Cape, elsewhere rough. Eastern Tasman Sea—Strong northeast winds to gales, veering to southerlies in the northern half. Seas rough to heavy. Weather—Becoming unsettled, dull and misty, with fairly general rain I developing, many heavy falls being likely during the next two days. Thunder in places..
