£6OO RAISED

«► RESULTS OF PLUNKET DAY SOCIETY'S STREET APPEAL The result of yesterday's appeal in aid of the funds of the Plunkct Society, when all the proceeds are received, will be more than £6OO, the actual total available last night being £592. Of this amount £265 was realised from the sale in the ? streets of violets, and £327 from the * stalls. On the result of the day's '< effort being announced the presi- < dent, Mrs J. Cracroft Wilson, and the members of the executive com- ! mitlec expressed themselves as 1 deeply grateful for the support given ] to the appeal, and stated that they ( valued the small coins of to-day as 1 much as the larger contributions of more prosperous years. The object of ' the Plunkct Day appeal was to raise 1 the funds absolutely necessary for J the work of the Plunkct nurses to be ' carried on, and the £6OO realised from the sale of violets and from ' the stalls, together with the £309, the proceeds of the cabaret held | some weeks ago, would enable this to be done. They also expressed 1 their grateful thanks to the many ( collectors, those who conducted and 1 assisted at the stalls, and all others who helped to bring about the re- > suit of yesterday's appeal. Last year a special effort was made, and the proceeds from the sale of violets and from the stalls , amounted to £940; in 1931 the appeal brought in £605. ', Towards yesterday's appeal cheques were received from Messrs George Humphreys and P. Coleby : and Miss Francis. Two little girls on Clifton Hill, Sumner, sold violets ( and collected 4s 6d.
