——-—♦ ; —- RETURNED SOLDIERS' DANCE The members of the Riccarton subbranch of the Returned Soldiers' Association held a successful dance in the Town Hall last night. The organising committee was Mesdames H. Manhire, C. Tucker, and S. Wilson, Misses Iris Manhire, Bernice and Sylvia Smith, and Messrs H. Manhire and C. A. Tucker. The duties of master of ceremonies were carried out by Mr C. A. Tucker, and A. Sutherland's dance band supplied the music. The proceeds of the dance were in aid of the benevolent fund of the association. Those present included Mesedames H. Manhire, C. A. Tucker, S. Wilson, L. Brake, W. Somerville, J. G. Holmes, Misses Jean Edginton, Joan Joyce, B. Brown, Bernice Smith, Iris Manhire, Phyllis Swanston, Dorothy Liebert, Mary Stallard, Gwen Shier, Sylvia and Bernice Srtith, and Messrs G. Walcot Wood, K. Staples, I. S. Brake, W. Somi erville, L. Edginton, G. Cox, J. Vivian, W. J. Cadenhead, E. Bowland, H. Manhire, W. Wright, J. C. Cadenhead, Owen Calverts, and C. A. Tucker. St, James' Ladies' Guild In an effort to quprnent the funds of St. James's Anglican Ladies' Guild a social afternooji organised by Mrs C. W. Price, was held in the Sunday schoolroom on Wednesday. There was a good attendance of members of neighbouring guilds, who were welcomed by Mrs R. de Lambert, who spoke of the organiser's work and thanked the performers for the musical prpgramwe -which was presented. The following gave items:- Mrs W. E.' Olds and Misses Doris and Eileen Beck, instrumental trio; the pupils of Miss Elsa Whitta, ballet dances; Mrs S. Jowett and R. J. Malcolmson, vocal solos; Miss Eileen Beck, violin obbligato; Sliss Joan Masters, recitations, Mrs W. E. Olds was the accompanist. | Card Evening. The committee in charge of the St. James' Kindergarten arranged a successful bridge and flag 500 evening in the Sunday schoolroom. The committe,e. consisted of Mesdames M. Coutts, C. Brown, F. Davey, E. Humm, and E. McClatchy (honorary secretary). The winners of the flag 500 tournament were Mr and Mrs J. Skurr. Mesdames S. M. lies and J. Church comprised the winning bridge table. Those present included Mesdames B. O'Neill, R. Mitchell, E. McClatchy, R. Malcolmson, M. Coutts, N. Clayworth, F. George, J. Skurr, J. Church, R. Lester, C. Brown, J. Palmer, E. Humm, A. T. Watson, J. Stanton, D. Jackson, S. M. lies, F. Davey, O. Luxton, G. Bailey, Dennis, Roberts; Misses E. Mitchell, H. Jones, I. Turner, F. Davidson, J. Luxton; Messrs E. McClatchy, J. Skurr, F. Davey, A. Bean, E. Humm, Pulley, and M. Coutts. Personal. Mrs N. J. Walsh (Lovells Flat, Otago) arrives to-day on a visit to Mr and Mrs J. Pascoe, Newnham terrace. Mrs C. Brown, Division street, left on Wednesday on a visit to Hokitika.
