The Marlborough provincial boxing championships produced a high standard of performance and numerous thrilling fights. The finals resulted: Feather-weight—P. Rayner beat C. Elsmore. Bantam-weight—L. Thomas beat T. Harnett. Light-weight—C. Rayner beat D. Hendra. Welter-weight—C. Rayner beat R. Morighan, after being floored thrice in the last round. Middle-weight—A. Dasler beat I. Nicholls by a technical knock-out in the third round. Light heavy-weight—A. Dasler won unopposed. Heavy-weight—Mason Macdonald (14st 21b) beat A. Dasler (list sJlb), on a foul in the third round.
