ENGLISH BANK DEPOSITS.

i : * BIG INCREASE. OPERATIONS OF EXCHANGE FUND. (Received July 24, 9.30 p.m.) LONDON, July 24. Deposits in England's nine clearing banks for the year ended May 30 were greater than for the previous year by £212,000,000, the total being £1,938,000,000. The "Daily Express" assumes that the enormous increase is due largely to the operations of the £375,000,000 exchange equalisation fund, which has sold sterling in almost unlimited quantities to foreigners desiring to bring money to London.
