"The aim of Antarctic explorers is to complete our knowledge of the geography of the world, and to contribute to existing scientific knowledge," said Dr. H. L. Willcox, who joined the Byrd Expedition in 1930, in an address at a luncheon of the Auckland branch of the Overseas League. Dr. Willcox said it was useless trying to bluff the public'with stories of workable gold in Antarctica, such as was found in Alaska.
