WINTER SHOW.
EVIDENCE OF OPTIMISM.
MANY APPLICATIONS FOR SPACE. Definite evidence of a more optimistic spirit in industry was provided yesterday by the organisers of the Winter Show, which will be held in King Edward Barracks from August 5 to August 19. "Never before ha* there been such a demand for manufacturers' space," said Mr E. H. Marrinev. "A man called here this morning and applied for 200 feet; we could not give it to him. Applications for side-show space also have come in. from all parts of the Dominion." Miss F. L. Cooper, secretary of the home industries section, stated that competition entries were quite up to those of last year. It had been decided to delete certain sections and to concentrate more on the products of home industry. Included in this was hand-craft, which was creating a great deal of interest, and already some very beautiful exhibits had been received. Applications had had to be refused, and there was room only for the best. Also included in this section were art needlework, cookery for adults, for girls between 15 and 21 years of age, and for girls attending the primary and secondary schools, preserves, wines, honey, and fruit. Both organisers added that they had no doubt that the show this year would be more comprehensive and representative of the best in manufacture, art and home crafts, than on any previous occasion.
