CHATHAM CUP. TECHNICAL REACHES FINAL. Results:— Chatham Cup: Technical Old Boys 6, Linwood 0. Hurley Shield: Western 2, Nomads 0. Thistle 4, St. Albans 0. Chief interest in Association football was centred in the replayed Chatham Cup match between Technical Old Boys and Linwood at English Park. On July 8 the teams played a twogoal draw. On Saturday, although Linwood played one man short in the first half, Technical was immeasurably superior in all departments of the game. The sloppy ground and greasy ball presented little difficulties to the virile Technical team. Trained to the minute, Technical was on top in every attacking movement, and its combination and placements were always superior. Its win by six clear goals was well merited. Thistle will now meet Technical Old Boys in the local final.

In the Hurley Shield matches Nomads met Western at Richmond Park. Owing to injuries and other causes, Nomads had to field four junior players. In the circumstances Nomads did well to hold Western down to a two-goal win. In its first round match with. St. Albans, Thistle received a fright when its opponents threatened to win and actually led at half-time. The Scots left nothing to chance on Saturday at Malvern Park and went after goals from the kick off. Easing up in the second spell, Thistle won by the four-goal margin notched in the first spell. The following table shows the positions of the teams in the Hurley Shield championship:— Goals. P. W. L. D. F. A. Pts. LINWOOD (0). Following the draw between Technical Old Boy? and Linwood in the Chatham Cup match on July 8, the game was replayed at English Park. A. Cope was absent from the Linwood team, which played one short in the first half. After the interval W. Thomas filled the vacancy. The teams were:—

Technical Old Boys (green and gold) —A. Bissett, F. Neale, A. Milne, D. Weir, M. Gordon, W. Clark, F. Craggs A. Scott, G. Smith, K. Greenwood, T. Walls. Linwood (yellow and black) —S. Bremford, A. Porter, T. Waddell, W. Lees, A. Gordon, C. Whittaker, P. Allen, J. Gibbs, W. Wilson, J. Cruickshanks.

Technical kicked off towards the school-end goal and was nearly through in the first minute when Greenwood just failed to reach a centre by Craggs. Linwood made a move down the centre, and • when Milne miskicked Wilson raced for goal. Neale put on pace and overhauled the Linwood man in the nick of time. The ground was treacherous and the ball hard to control. A brace of corners had Linwood on the defensive,. and a moment later Bremford made a grand save from Smith at the foot of the upright. Technical continued to press, and Smith opened the score with a shot which struck the cross-bar in transit. Wilson nad'no support in a Linwood sally and Technical returned to the attack. Scott made ground and crossed m front of the net for Walls to register an easy one. Technical Old Boys 2, Linwood 0. Soon Technical was three goals up. From the left, Walls dropped the ball to goal for Smith, to heau in well up. Technical continued to monopolise the game, playing grand football in spite of the atrocious conditions. Jn.a.fur-

ther raid Smith sent the ball to Greenwood who found the net with a good cross-shot. Technical Old Boys 4, Linwood 0. The score was made five when Scott registered from a concerted rush to the goal mouth. At half-time the score was: Technical Old Boys 5, Linwood 0. Resuming, W. Thomas came on to make up Linwood's full quota. Bremford earned early applause by getting down to a strong shot by Smith. A moment later Smith shot point blank and the ball bounced from Bremford to be cleared by Waddell. Linwood took a hand when A. Gordon placed out to the left for Cruickshanks to bring down Bissett to a strong crossshot. The game was more even now, but Bremford was making some good saves in goal for Linwood. There came a corner to Technical which Walls placed nicely. A ruck followed, and then Weir drove the bail in. Technical 6, Linwood 0. Lack of cohesion in attack ruined several Linwood raids. Neate and Milne were playing a fine defensive game for Technical. Linwood had hard luck in not scoring just on time and the game ended with the scoreTechnical Old Boys 6, Linwood 0. Referee, Mr J. Crewe. WESTERN (2) '. v. NOMADS (0). Nomads kicked off from the east end, and after some vigorous up-and-down play scored. W. Kelly secured at half-way and took a long-distance shot which reached the n3t. Western 1, Nomads 0. Western kept • play in Nomads' territory, both wings making fine runs. Nomads broke away and a combined rush by Pickup, Riddicks, and Sharr saw G. Colville save a hot shot. Nomads was unfortunate in not scoring during a raid by Timms and Eeale. Nomads kept up the pressure, but Cawtheray and Henderson cleared to Whittington, who made a long transfer to Nomads' goalmouth which was headed over by McMillan. Western countered a hot Nomads attack and narrowly missed scoring from a rush which was cleared by McMillan. Half-time sounded with Nomads hot on attack and the scores:

Western 1, Nomads 0. Western forced play from the kick off, with Henderson, Haley and McMillan prominent. Hall, the Nomads goalkeeper, made some fine saves. Play swung into Western territory after good uefensive work by Stricter and Goode. A combined rush staged by Adams, Beale, and Sharr was checked by Cawtheray and Kelly. Western momentarily broke away, but Goode Riddicks. Beale, and Timms took the ball back for an uneventful corner McMillan and Whittington made ground for Western, but Poole spoilt a good movement by missing with only the goalie to beat. The slippery condition of the ground spoilt many scoring opportunities. Sharr put Nomads on attack, but Ellis relieved, sending the ball to Haley who capped a good run by scoring from close in. Western 2. Nomads 0. Nomads made last-min-ute attempts to score. A fine effort by Timms and Sharr saw the latter centre with a poor shot. The game ended with the scores:

Referee, Mr E. Davey. Western 2, Nomads 0. THISTLE (4) v. ST. ALBANS (0). Playing at Malvern Park Thistle almost immediately applied- pressure and A. Cullen, the St. Albans coalkeeper, was early in action. He fended a shot from Bruce and Rump cleared to half-way. Thistle came again, making pace with short, crisp passes which kept the defence on the run. From the left G. Walker lifted a nice ball to Adam. Clements came into action on the transfer and he slammed in a low shot which A. Cullen just failed to cover. Lindsay and Dryden were prominent in mid-field work for St. Albans, but the forwards could make little progress against the defence. Again the Thistle left flank flashed into action. A. Walker placed well down for G. Walker to take the ball on the run. The movement gained a corner and from the kick Clements put Thistle two goals up. Play was being contested almost entirely in St.. Albans territory, and following crisp work on the left G. Walker placed a shot which struck the upright and rebounded into play. Adam was'on the spot and he goaled an easy one. Thistles $/&£«
