A NOBLE BATTLE.
BISHOP WEST-WATSON'S TRIBUTE. "The Press" has received the following message from Bishop West-Watson: I wish to offer the St. John Ambulance Association and Brigade congratulations on the opening of their new quarters in Christchurch, and every good wish for the larger work which the larger opportunity offers. The Order was born for the work of mercy to pilgrims in Jerusalem some 800 years ago, and grew into a great order of chivalry. When Jerusalem fell, it continued to fight the Turk and nurse the sick, but with the coming of the modern world it lost its importance and was falling into decay, until in the last century it was reborn as the great order of chivalrous service to the sick and suffering with which we are familiar to-day. It has laid aside the sword, but is fighting as noble a battle as ever was fought in Rhodes or Malta, and enlisting in its ranks a new flower of knighthood, men and women who strive worthily to bear the sizn of the eisrht-pointed cross.
