Conditions wqre misty early in the morning, but later the weather was mild and sunny. The sky was practically cloudless for the greater part of the day, and there was hardly any wind. The barometer fell slightly, but remained above normal. Wellington—Dull but fine weather prevailed yesterday. There was a northerly breeze. The evening was overcast, but mild. Dunedin—Light rain fell yesterday following a fairly long spell of fine weather and heavy frosts. A light northerly breeze was blowing. The barometer fell after being exceptionally high for several days and registered 30.00 last evening.
, Island. A westerly depression has advanced on to southern New Zealand, while a cyclone has developed off the I New South Wales coast. Winds—Moderate to strong northerly, reaching gale force in places in and south of Cook Strait. Seas (New Zealand waters)— Hough on the west coast and about Cook and Foveaux Straits, elsewhere moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea—Freshening northerly winds and rising seas. I Weather—Unsettled in the western I and far southern districts. Heavy rain is likely on the west coast of the South Island, fair at first in eastern districts, but a fairly general rain developing after from 16 to 24 hours; mild temperatures. DOMINION REPORTS.
