SAFE BLOWN AT CHATHAM ISLANDS.

It was reported recently that an attempt had been made to blow open the safe at the post office at Waitangi, Chatham Islands. From information gathered on the arrival of the Tees at Lyttelton last night, it appears that the post office was entered, but the attempt to blow open the safe failed, the handle being blown off. Some person also broke into the hotel owned by Mr Dan Reardon, at Waitangi. The intruder entered the bedroom where Mr Reardon was sleeping, but on the occupant waking the intruder made his escape.
