METHODIST CHURCH.

SYDENHAM CIRCUIT. The quarterly meeting of the Sydenham Methodist Circuit was held at the residence of Mr H. Heyward, Beckenham on Monday. The Rev. Hay Richards presided. Mrs Johnson and Mr \V. L. Thomas were welcomed to the meeting. The balance-sheet, presented by Mr S. H. Maddren, showed a small deficit on the quarter's working. Mr Richards reported on the leaders' meeting held during the quarter at Beckenham. Mr G. A. Withell, home mission secretary, reported on home mission services held in the circuit. The amount collected to date was £25. Miss A. Wise, agent for "Open Door" missionary paper, reported 61 subscribers, all financial. Correspondence was received regarding the hospital chaplain fund. It was decided to take no action. It was resolved that special collections be taken on Sunday, September 17, for the Beckenham Sunday School anniversary, also that one Sunday be set apart for foreign missions. Miss Gwen Stephens, secretary of the Sydenham Sunday School, reported that attendances and progress were good. Twenty-one scholars had entered for the Scripture examinations. An operetta, "Jan of Windmill Land," had been successfully given by the scholars. Mr Eric Young, secretary of the Beckenham Sunday School, reported that Beckenham was on the upward trend. Twenty-one scholars entered for the Scripture examination. Mr Ewart Smith, High street, reported that there were 25 scholars on the roll and that six hac* entered for the Scripture examination. Mr Richards congratulated the Beckenham Christian Endeavour Society on the success of its meetings. Motions of sympathy were passed with the relatives of Mrs Frazer, Mr J. Kay, and Mr J. A. Black. Supper was served by Mrs and Miss Heyward.
