Repairs to the bridge over the Hurunui river in the Amuri county have now been completed. The bridge was designed by engineers of the Canterbury Provincial Government, and was built in 1868. Although the bridge has been in use for 65 years, the original piles are still in fair order. When it was first built it stood the test of one of Canterbury's highest floods in 1868, and only slight damage was done. In 1890 a new superstructure was built.
