Cole (chairman), J. B. Chick, T. J. Carey, R. M. McGloin, C. Taylor, F. Rowe, C. Allen, L. R. Cox, P. Klrton, C. L. Hill, S. W. Rogers, and H. B. Rbgers. The registrations of R. R. Crofts and M. F. Waghorn (New Brighton Club), and W. Dee and W. Carey (Pirates Club) were approved and tne applica-

lion of C. Tom kin was referred lo the junior advisory board. F. Chick, of the Linwood Club, was regraded from senior to junior. The Linwood Club's protest against the committee playing its senior team against Hornby on consecutive Saturdays was referred to the New Zealand Council for a ruling. Rulings of Council. The following rulings received from the New Zealand Council were referred to the Referees' Association and the clubs:— "Play the ball rule —When the player with the ball is held without going to the ground the referee should call 'play the ball.' If the player who is tackling does not immediately release the man with the ball he must be penalised. Also, if a player with the call is brought to the ground and the ball comes in contact with the ground the referee must call 'play the ball.' The player tackling must immediately release his hold and the man with the ball must play the ball, in accordance with the rule. Referees should pay strict attention to the player tackling and see that the man with the ball is able to get on his feet and play the ball without hindrance from the tackier. The referees must also insist on the man with the ball immediately regaining his feet to play the ball in accordance with the reference note in the rule book following the definition of 'Tackle' on page 13. "Scrum—Your association is also of the opinion that all players must keep their proper formation in the scrum until the ball comes out, as laid down in the rule. The practice of players having their hands on the side of the scrum should cease and the offending player be penalised. Our interpretation in this respect is that the players of each side must lock or bind their own players together by encircling the arm around the body, not by catching a portion of their uniform and taking hold in that way." A meeting of the junior advisory board was held before the meeting of the management committee. Mr P. Kirton presiding. The registrations of 14 new players were approved. The West Coast League wrote stating that it could not approve of July 22 as the date for a junior representative match with Canterbury, but that it hoped to arrange a date later. Draw for Saturday.
