SIMPLE POLYNESIAN HAPPINESS.

True happiness in every sense of the word was made possible by the Polynesian outlook on life, said Mr G. Samson, an English writer, who has recently returned from nine months in the South Seas. On one island, he said, where the true Polynesian life existed, the wholesome outlook of the natives, with their true kindliness, was to be seen at its best. That was the island of Maupiti, which to a large extent had been sheltered from "progress" by the presence of a dangerous coral reef. So great was the hospitality of the natives that at times it was positively embarrassing. Everyone offered Mr Samson a house. The islanders liked to bring happiness to others. Their simple code was socialism in its finest sense. One could not leave the island without feeling a deep admiration for this simple and kindly people.
