EXPORT CERTIFICATES.

ONE BURDEN REMOVED. Advice has been received from London by the secretary of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce that the British customs authorities have withdrawn their demand for separate certificates of origin for containers of goods exported to England, presumably as the result of pressure from importers of Empire products. It was reported in "The Press" on Saturday that investigations were being made by the Exporters' Committee of the chamber into the multiplicity of trade certificates which were being demanded . from New Zealand exporters by the governments of the world, with the object of making a strong protest against such hindrances to trade. It was explained then that the latest certificate to be demanded was a certificate of origin covering the container in which goods were exported to Great Britain from New Zealand. If the value of the container was less than 50 per cent. Imperial a duty of 10 per cent, was charged on a value arbitrarily assessed by the British Customs Department.
