NORTH BEACH PROGRESS LEAGUE.
TROLLEY-BUS SERVICE DISCUSSED. The monthly meeting of the North Beach Progress League and Beautifying Association was held in the Memorial Hall last evening, when Mr A. Peverill presided over an attendance of 50 members. A letter was received from the Rawhiti Domain Board stating that the board would give four cords of firewood towards the band rotunda in Thomson's Park. It was decided to accept the gift and to thank the board. The Town Clerk, New Brighton, wrote in reply to the league's complaint that there had been undue delay in the despatch of the fire engine on a recent occasion, stating that there had been no undue delay. There were two qualified drivers and it was not considered desirable to allow. any other person to drive the engine. The Christchurch Tramway Board wrote stating that concession coupons had been available on trolley-buses since the introduction of the coupons The letter further stated that the single cash fare from the Ozone Cafe to the Pier was threepence, although it had been stated inadvertently at the meeting of the Transport Licensing Board that the fare was twopence. It was decided to protest against the action of the Tramway Board in discontinuing the service from the Ozone Cafe to the Pier. The chairman and secretary ,swb®-appointed delegates Bcpreacnt
the league at the meeting of th* Transport Appeal Board, i The chairman - reported that th* Tramway Board had obtained permission to cut down the number of trips from the city to North Beach during the winter. The report showed that 416 trips a week were made by the trolley-buses, carrying an average or seven persons a trip. The saving proposed was 2898 car miles, or a matter of £550 a year. ' " _ , The social committee reported that the sum of £l2 Is 7d had been handed over to the New Brighton Volunteer Fire Brigade's Building Fund, the proceeds of a social organised by the le ffwas decided to ask the Rawhiti Domain Board to supply suitable trees to plant inside the fence along the Esplanade. At the conclusion of the meeting, an address was given by Mr A. R. Allardyce on the Douglas Credit System.
