COUNTY COUNCIL.

OXFORD. At the monthly meeting of the Oxford County Council, there were present Mr Percy Fisher (chairman) and Messrs E. Skurr, W. H. Collings, H. G. Parish, F. W. Engelbrecht, and C. F. Bassett.

A letter was received from Mr E. W. George, asking the council to repair a track at View Hill, so that his children could go to school without crossing the river. The chairman, Mr E. Skurr, and the clerk were appointed to inspect the track. The takings for the town hall for the month of May were £8 17s. Mr G. H. Brown wrote 'asking the council to cut down the bluegum trees at the council office, as they were a nuisance. The council decided that it could not accede to the request Mrs A. M. Ffitch was granted permission to have the roadside in front of her property ploughed, on condition that it was disced and levelled.

It was decided to call tenders for the lease of the drain reserve at Bennetts.

It was resolved to repair the bridge on Sales road. It was decided to write to the Canterbury Progress League, asking if it would take up the matter of a better water-race system for the irrigation of the land from Woodstock downwards, as the present Eyre system was giving out.

Several ratepayers requested that the council do away with the stock ranger's services, owing to the shortage -of feed, but the council decided tnat it could not grant their request. At the annual meeting of the council there were present Mr E. Skurr <deputy-chairman), and Crs. H. G. Parish, W. H. Collings, P. Fisher, F. W. Engelbrecht, and C. F. Bassett. An apology for absence owing to illness was received from the chairman, Mr August Meyers. The deputy-chairman, in moving a vote of sympathy to Mr A. Meyers, expressed a wish for his speedy recovery.

The balance-sheet, which was adopted, subject to audit, showed that the council was In a sound financial position.'

Cr. R Fisher was elected chairman ana Cr, a. Skurr deputy-chairman. Cr. H.. G. Parish was elected the council's representative on the Canterbury Progress League. It was decided to take legal proceedings for the recovery of arrears of rent foe council reserves.
