AEOLIAN CLUB.
FIRST RECITAL OF SEASON. A recital of interest to all musiclovers will be given by the Aeolian Club in the Radiant Hall on June 21, when a well-contrasted programme, consisting of both vocal and instrumental works, will be presented. Included among the pianoforte works will be the Delius Concerto, played by Mr Frederick Page, a work which will arouse much interest as it will introduce to the audience a great composer who is as yet little known to the Christchurch public. Other pianoforte items will include the Barcarolle in P sharp major, Op. 60 (Chopin), by Miss Phyllis Kinniburgh, and the Brahms' Rhapsodie in B minor, Op. 79 No. 1, by Miss Olive Cooper. In contrast with these works will be a group of descriptive modern pieces, including "The River Maas" (B. van den Sigfenhorst Meyer), "The Little White Donkey" (Jacques Ibert), and "Women Spinning Near Carantec" (RheneBaton), to be given by Mr Gordon Anderson. One of the most Interesting numbers on the programme, and one which will be much appreciated by lovers of chamber music, will be Beethoven's Instrumental Trio in C minor, Op. 1, No. 3, by Miss Dora Deal, Miss Marjorie Chapman, and Miss Bessie Pollard. The vocalist will be Miss Lillian Hanham, among whose items will be "Vissi d'arte, vissi d amore," the beautiful aria from Puccini's "Tosca." On her second appearance during the recital, Miss .Hanham will sing a group of songs, including (> Sleep, Why Dost Thou Leave Me?" (Handel), "Sunday" (Brahms) Psyche" (Paladilke), and Deep in Love was I" (Rachmaninoff).
