~ CORSAIR BAY INSPECTED

An inspection of Corsair Bay was made yesterday afternoon by the Mayor (Mr W. T. Lester), Crs. A. G. Sinclair, J. N. Neville, and G. Halliday, and the borough engineer (Mr H. H. Barnard).

It was found that some damage had been done to the foreshore by heavy seas during the recent southerly gales, and to the banks and paths by storm water. Some of the decking and railing of the launch jetty had been carried away, and part of the approach to the-jetty washed out by the sea. Damage had also been caused to the structure of the women's enclosure. Deposits of sand and shingle had formed banks near the launch jetty and near the rocks below the domain. Damage by storm water had been caused by water-tables and sumps having become blocked, the water scouring out the pathways. In some instances the banks below fir trees in the domain had been scoured out, and the trees will have to be felled. The party inspected the dressing sheds, which are in need of repairs and painting. Young Women's Christian Association. The monthly meeting of the committee of the Young Women's Christian Association held on Monday evening was well attended. The secretary reported that a successful camp had been held at Cust, North Canterbury, during the school holidays, and all the residents did their best to make the campers happy. All clubs were being well attended. The senior group was doing folk dancing with Miss E. Ockenden, and was also starting Swiss drill as a part of the pageant which is to be held in Christchurch shortly. The basketball teams were doing well, having won all their matches so far this season. At the annual meeting of the Mothers' Club Mrs H. McGilp was reelected secretary. The election of president was held over. The club would welcome new members, especially anyone willing to knit or sew for the distressed, as this has been arranged as part of the programme for the winter, in addition to cane work. Money-raising efforts were discussed, and it was decided to hold an oldtime dance in the Club Hall shortly and to hold the annual fair in August.

A very pleasant evening was held in the club-room recently, when the girls entertained the committee, Mothers' Club, and members of other organisations to a social evening. The speaker for the evening was Miss Audrey McCrea, girls' work secretary for New Zealand. Miss McCrea gave a most interesting talk on her recent tour of America and Europe, speaking of the girls of the different nations, also describing the world's office of the Young Women's Christian Association in Geneva. Harbour Light Theatre.
