SHARP RISE IN VALUES RECORDED. HAMILTON. [THE PBESS Special Serriet,] AUCKLAND, June 13. A sharp rise in the prices of mutton and lamb took place at the fat stock sale at Hamilton to-day. Considerable importance is attached to the movement, which coincides with the firming in value for other sneep products. The prices realised for heavy wethers were up to 24s 9d, medium from 16s to 18s, and light from 14s 6d. Heavy ewes made up 1» 16s Id, medium 10s to 12s 6d. and plain from 8s 6d. Heavy lambs ranged in price to 18s 6d, medium bringing from 13s to 15s and plain from 10s 6d. This is the first time these prices have been obtained during the last two years. Northern buyers secured the bulk of tho fat lambs. The local bidders exceeded tlieir schedule rate, but the northern competitors persisted and went up to -2s for exceptionally good pens, 'while sevetal lots sold at more than 20s. Fat Sheep and Lambs —The abnormal size of the fat sheep and fat lamb yardings had no deadening effect on the competition, and bidding at improved rates from northern and local interests was exceptionally keen throughout. Good quality lambs principally met with strongest competition at well above local schedule rates. The sale was classed as probably the best all over held at Lorneville for some years. JCxtra heavy prime lambs sold at 19s to 20s 9d, with exceptionally good lots up to 225. Prime sorts roalised 15s Cd to 17s 9a, medium 14s to 15s 6d, and light 12s to 13s. Extra prime i heavy wethers realised 18s to 20s 6d, prime j medium weights 15s to 16s, and lighter lis to 13s. Extra prime heavy-weight ewes BOld to 12s 6d. prime heavy sorts 10s to 12s (id, medium from 8s to 9a Gd, and freezing lots from Gs 3d to 7s 6d. Fat Cattle —The market for good quality cattle was on a par with laßt week's sale. Best quulity bullocks made £5 10b to_ £6 10s, medium quality £4 to £4 10s, and light, and unfinished down to £2 15s. Best cows sold to £4, medium weights made £3 to £4 10s, and lighter sorts £1 35s to £2 ss. Best heifers sold up to £4, medium weights made £3 to £3 ss, and lighter sorts £2. WAIPUKUSAU. A rise of 2s to 3s a head, partly on account of the keen competition among Ashburton and Christchurch buyers, and also duo to the yarding of particularly prime lines of fat sheep, was the feature of the Ashburton stock market yesterday. A number of local butchers who were anxious to obtain the best sheep in the yards for their annual displays during Winter Show weeks, ran other competitors up to a higher figure than usual. The top price of the market was 22s 4d for ttt-o exceptionally heavy fat wethers. Another sheep of equal quality realised 20s Cd on account of Mrs TV. T. J. Lochhead, of Mount Somers, while Mr J. Fleming (Methven) received 19s lOd for three and 18s Id for six. An extra prime fat ewe, sold on account of Mr F. P. Cookson, of Eiffolton, realised 20s, another 19s 3d, and three more 16s 7d.
