Uiccnrton. to Mr Crowley. . —" APPOINTMENT APPRECIATED. ♦—- At the meeting of the Heathcote County Council last night a letter was read from Mr E. F. Willcox, secretary of the Christchurch Returned Soldiers' Association, expressing the keen appreciation of members of the action of the county council in appointing a returned soldier, Mr J. P. E. Veale, to the position of county clerk. It had been the policy of the association to obtain at all times preference for returned soldiers in employment, all things being equal, and the council's decision in making the appointment was much appreciated.
The main principles of the Douglas social credit movement were supported by Mr H. Almore, M.P. for Nelson, in an address at Auckland. In attacking what he termed the present indefensible system of currency control, Mr Atmore quoted a resolution by tHe council of the London Chamber of Commerce to the effect that monetary reform was of outstanding importance, that the immediate arresting of the progress of deflation was a condition precedent to a return to national prosperity, and that no other measures could be effectively substituted for it.
