PUBLIC MEETING. A public meeting to appoint a committee to organise a scheme for the relief of distress in Lyttcllon will be held in the Council Chambers on Thursday evening. Cricket. Regarding a statement attributed to Mr S. Cording, captain of the Lyttelton Miniature Rifles Cricket Club, at the presentation of the third grade trophy on Saturday evening, that no Lytteiton cricket club had been successful in winning a competition in suburban cricket for 33 years, Mr Cording stated yesterday that the period mentioned should have been 23 years. Lytteiton was successful about 1905-1907. Methodist Church. A handsome clock, to the memory of Mr John Carter, a staunch supporter of the church, who died in November, 1930, was unveiled at the morning service of the Methodist Church on Sunday by Mr John it. Webb, the oldest member of the congregation. Mr Webb said he had known Mr Carter for more than 50 years, and had known him to be a model husband, father, citizen, and employee. They could only hope that others would arise to take his place in the community and strive to follow his example. The congregation stood while Mr Webb unveiled the clock, '.he inscription on which read: "Dedicated to tbo memory of John Carter, who died November 11, 1930."
