BOROUGH COUNCILS

RANGIORA. A meeting of the Rangiora Borough Council was held last evening. Present: The Mayor (Mr W. A. Rowse), Councillors J. A. Ivory, C. W. Tyler, H. K. Kippenberger, C. S. Ayers, R. R. Gillanders, E. W. Whilworth, R. J". Logan, and W. T. N. Keir. The motor traffic inspector reported that one new license in the Kowai County and three in the Rangiora County had been issued. During the last fortnight 28 persons had been warned for riding at night without lights, and several warnings to riders of motor-cycles for noisy exhausts had been given. Seventeen cases, mostly for speeding, were heard in the court during the month, fines being imposed in ali cases. The gas manager's report was adopted. The amended constitution of the ' Dudley Park Control Board was approved of, with the following alteration:—That the board make grants of allowances from its funds to clubs or associations for the purpose of fostering or encouraging any amateur athletic sports, provided that no new principie of expenditure be involved without the written consent of the council. The St. John. Ambulance Association wrote seeking permission to hold a street sale of badges on a sale day towards the end of the present month. Permission was granted. The secretary of the Rangiora Fire Brigade wrote asking for the use of the council chamber for the annual meeting. The application was granted. The Mayor and councillors accepted an invitation to be present. The town hall committee recommended the council to reduce the charge at picture shows for the three front rows of seats to Is. The recommendation was adopted. The finance committee reported that the Local Government Loans Board had approved of a supplementary loan for water-works to the extent of £450. The matter was referred to the works committee for a report. A motion of sympathy was passed to Mr F. Langbein in the death of his wife.
