SPORTS FIXTURES.

A BIG PROGRAMME FOR TO-DAY. FOOTBALL, HOCKEY, TENNIS, AND CROSS-COUNTRY RUNNING. For the thousands of players and followers of winter sports in Christchurch there is another big list of fixtures today. All the football and hockey competitions will be continued, and two of the harrier clubs will hold teams' races, the Christchurch Club running over the veil-known course in the Cashmere valley. The Rugby Union game on the oval will be between Old Boys and Christchurch. Rugby followers who saw Old Boys defeat Sydenham last week are looking forward to another bright game and good work by the Old Boys' backs. The game set down for the south ground at Lancaster Park will be between Sydenham and Linwood. Sydenham supporters are confident that their team will win, but the improving Linwood team will probably fight out an interesting match strongly to the final whistle. The game on the west ground at Lancaster Park will be between University and Merivale. Merivale, lying second on the competition ladder, is expected to win a fast game. Albion and Athletic will meet at Rugby Park. The curtain-raiser at Lancaster Park will be a match between the Merivale and Linwood under 16 teams, beginning at 1.15 p.m. All senior matches begin at 2.45 p.m.

Interesting Draw for League. There is promise of some bright games in this round of the Rugby League competition. Linwood, which heads the table, will play Hornby, one oi the three teams which are equal second, at the Sydenham Park ground. The game should be fast all through. The match at Woolston Park will be between Sydenham and Pirates, and j at Rawhiti Domain, New Brighton, New Brighton will meet Riccavton. Matches start at 2.45 p.m. Thistle and Linwood Meet. , Followers of Association football are promised a bright game at English Park this afternoon, when Thistle, the leading team, will play Linwood, one of the two teams which are second equal. Thistle is favoured, but the game should be a fast and close one. This match will begin at 3 o'clock. Those who go early will be able to see a second match for their money—between St. Albans and Western, for which the kick-off will be at 1.30. The third game in the draw will be between Rangers and Nomads, at Richmond Park, starting at 3 o'clock. | Hockey Teams on Equal Terms. With all the hockey teams level on the competition ladder there can hardly ! fail to be plenty of bright play in today's matches. In this case in every i game a leading team will be meeting a leading team. Trinity and University will play on Hagley Park No. 7, RedclifTs and Selwyn on Hagley Park No. 8, &nd Technical and Sydenham on Hagley Park No. 6. There should be almost a record number of onlookers at Hagley Park, for a great deal depends on this round of the competition. Cross-Country Race at Cashmere. Two of the harrier clubs will hold teams' races to-day. The Christchurch Club will race over the five-mile course at Cashmere, starting from the Old Stone House on the Cashmere Estate. This course, the New Zealand championship one modified, provides splendid country for a cross-country run, and can be conveniently followed by cars. The second teams' race will be held by the Anglican Club, from the residence of Mr L. F. de Berry, 456 Manchester street. The Baptist Club will run from the residence of Mrs Miles., Woodham road,® Avonside, the Presbyterian Club from the Cashmere Presbyterian Church, Dyer's Pass road, and the Methodist Club from the residence of Dr. J. H. Simpson, 56 Puriri street, Biccarton. Second Boiuid of Tennis. The second round of the winter tennis competition will be played at Wilding Park this afternoon. The draw is: North Linwood No. 1 v. Linwood, on courts 18, 19, and 20; South Christchurch v. Canterbury College, on courts 4, 11, and 12; New Brighton v. Shirley, on courts 9, 10, and 17; Fendalton v. North Linwood No. 2, courts 1, 2, and 3; Woolston will have the bye. Women's Hockey and Basketball. Two senior A women's hockey matches and three basketball games will be played this afternoon. In the hockey competition Training College! will default to West Christchurch., Aranui will meet Technical on Hagley No. 4 at 3 o'clock, and University and Digby's will meet on Hagley No. 3 at 1.30 o'clock. The match between Pukaki and Southbrook will be played letter. ! In the A grade basketball, on South Hagley Park, Mairehau A will meet Beckenham A, court 28; St. Mary's A will meet United, and Digby's A will meet Technical on court 24. Matches begin 2.15 p.m.
