The activities of' the Akarana Maori Association have attracted attention overseas, and in recent months the association has received a number of enquiries regarding the worth and the historical interest of Maori articles which have found resting-places away from New Zealand, states the "Taranaki Daily News." Descriptions of an article are sent, and the owners show a keen interest in learning something of the probable origin or use of their possessions. The reason for the enquiries is doubtless a result of the extensive trading done in Maori curios last century, when much material of historical interest was taken from New Zealand by sailors, soldiers, and traders. Their descendants, who are not aware of the significance of the curios, are now trying, in some cases, to establish the origin of the articles. The recentlyformed historical division of the Akarana Association is also being kept increasingly busy answering questions from Europeans in New Zealand, and the evidences are that the interest in Maori affairs is growing, particularly among young people.
