ALLOCATION OF RELIEF FUNDS.

PROTEST FROM HAWERA. . (MUSS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) HAWERA, April 8. At a public meeting last evening a unanimous protest was made against the method of allocating relief funds as between country districts and the cities, and it was decided to ask the Mayor to convene a meeting of local bodies to support the protest. It was mentioned that relief workers in the cities had no stand-down week, and received the same rates of pay for four weeks as did country unemployed, who are compelled to stand down one week in four. The unanimous opinion was expressed that as country residents contributed to the Unemployment Board's funds in the same proportion as city residents, the basis of the allocations was grossly unfair.
