KEYS FOR HOUSEHOLDERS' WATER METERS. i i 4 A favourable reply to a request made by the council of the United' Burgesses' Association that householders should be given keys for their , water meters was received from the" City Council at the meeting of th& coun- '] t cil of the association last 'evening. * Present at the meeting were Messrs APeverill (chairman), F. J. Prouting, S. W. Richardson, T. H. Butterfield, F* Cartwright, F. S. Salves en, E. R. Adcock, H, T. Ablett, D. W. Bartram, W. J. Fletcher, and J. Stewart (hon. sec- . retary). ' _ ■ The :town, clerk (Mr J. S.- Neville) - wrote advising that the Waterworks • Committee of the Christchurch City Council had considered the representa- -• tions of the „ association relating 'to water meters and, was of the -opinion that the suggestion that householders be given keys for their meters was an acceptable one provided that the householders paid for the keys and gave an undertaking to be responsible "- for damage to the meter. The commit-' tee did not consider it advisable to have the meters plfeced inside' houses. ■'. The council decided to thank tine ' / committee for the reply and to ask ' that further consideration be givento the suggestion that cards, setting' ; out the details of the readings be left' . . with the householders.
