Savill, Brian Savill (Hanber\ F. Tillett, 0. Gardiner, P. Dearden (Waiau), M. Macfarlane (Waikari). A very pleasant function, given by Mrs Roberton and Mrs W. Scott, took place at "Dillonsdale," Charwell, on Wednesday evening to celebrate the birthday of Nancy, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs Roberton. and Phyllis, daughter of Mr and Mrs W. Scott, Mrs Scott and Mrs Ftoberton received the guests, the former attired in navy charmeuse, and the latter in black celanese and lace. Miss Nancy Roberton wore a pretty frock of apple preen crene de chine, and Miss Phyllis Scott looked charming in lemon satin. Music was supplied by Miss Ethel Wareham, extras beinn; olayed by Mrs Roberton and Miss Templeman. Competitions were won by Mr and Mrs B. Norrie and Mr and Mrs Hare. Mr P. S. Humm, on behalf of those present, expressed thanks to Mr and Mrs Scott and Mr and Mrs Roberton for a most enjoyable evening, Mr Roberton replying. The Kaikoura Tennis Club's season will end official!? to-morrow afternoon. Miss Cook (Christchurch) is at present the finest of Mrs W. Scott, "Dillonsdale," Charwell. HAWARDEN. On Saturday last the Wesley Tennis Club's team visited Hawarden and played a friendly match against the Hawnrden team. Wesley won by 10 sets (7!) games) to six sets (80 games). SOUTH MALVERN. The following team has boon selected to represent Coalgato in the match to be played at Coalgato against tho Railway Cricket Club at the week-end: — Messrs J. MeCaughan, W. K. Charles, E. Williams, T. Joyce, T. Charles, M. Gibson, & Wcastell, T. Reynolds, S. Marsh, T. Tarling, R. Ferguson, L. Knox, A. Kclmun, and P. Dunn. Mr S. A. Clark, inspector of schools, visited the local school last week. The children of the Glentunuel School will attend the Malvern combined (schools' sports, which are to be held at Darfield to-day. DARFIELD. The picture showing at the Malvern Picture Theatre on Saturday, "Chr.rllc Chan's Chance" is a very fine detective story. With the addition of a British comedy, "Professional Guest," thcro is an excellent programme.

LITTLE RIVER. Ou Wednesday six members of the Akaroa Croquet Club's B team played a friendly return match with tho Little River Croquet Club's B team on the Little River greens. The homo team won seven of the nine games played. The women members of St. John's Catholic Church, Littlo River, provided a luncheon in the Triangle Hall in aid pf the church funds on the day of the ewe fair held at Little River this week. The sum of £23 was realised. Mrs P. Pooley and her daughter (Ravensbournc) are spending a holiday with Mrs W. Rout, Little River. Miss A. Pocock (Christchurch) is the guest of Mrs G. Pocock, "Herman Cottage," Puaha, Little River. TEMPLETON. A special meeting of parishioners of St. Saviour's Church, Tcmplcton, was held in the library on Wednesday evening to discuss the financial position. Archdeacon P. N. Taylor and Mr Shoppherd, of the standing committee, were present. It was decided to make a special effort by those present undertaking to canvass the district, and to make Sunday, March 19, a day of special offering, the service to be held at 3 p.m. The first meeting of St. Saviour's Bible Class Club Avas held in the Templeton Library on Wednesday evening. Mrs Barnes was appointed president and Miss J. Sonne, secretary. The subject for the debate for the next meeting is "Summer Sports v. Winter Sports." Mrs Barnes presided over an attendance of 14 members. WINCHMORE. Harvest operations in the Winchmore district are almost cpmplcted, except for tho threshing of wheat and oat stacks and several crops of peas, which are being headed. Tho continued dry nor'wost weather is becoming serious owing to the shortage of feed for stock. Miss K. M. Verrull has returned homo from Wcsterficld, where she has been relieving assistant mistress since the beginning of the year. TAI TAPU. Harvest thanksgiving services were conducted in tho Methodist Church on Sunday, tho preacher in the morning being the Rev. N. P. Larsen, and in the evening Mr T. 0. Morgan. The church was prettily decorated by women members of the congregation with flowers, fruit, and vegetables. The choir, conducted by Mr Griffiths, sang appropriate hymns, Miss Tobeck playing the organ. On Tuesday evening the contributions of the harvest were sold. Mrs It. Macartney, of Taurauga, is the guest of Mrs J. H. Mackenzie. Mrs J. Ryan, who has been a patient in Lewisham Hospital, is making a satisfactory recovery, Mrs W. Anderson is well enough to leave St. George's Hospital, and is now staying with her daughter, Mrs Stun Wright, at Wcodcnd. Mr J. Doyle has returned from a holiday spent at Akaroa. PREBBLETON. Mr G. L. Millar presided at the annual meeting of the Prebbleton Rugby Football Club held on Tuesday evening. There was a very good attendance of members. The balance-sheet for the last season showed a small credit, a position which, owing to the heavy expenditure last year, was considered satisfactory. It was decided to rednce
