EXCHANGE OF SCHOOL TEACHERS.

NEW HOME CENTRE IN LONDON. | ■-. | ■ « ■ LTROM OUfl OTt» COESEBPOKDEHT.) LONDON, vFebruary 3. The League of Empire is the recognised organisation for the exchange j of teachers between this country and the Dominions, and it haß been for | many years the aim of the League to establish a residential headquarters' in London for them. It was the wish of Mrs Ord Marshall, for thirty years honorary secretary of the league, to realise this project, as the intimate • contact she maintained with the exchange teachers made clear to her the urgent need of providing a home centre. The committee of the league has now been enabled to purchase the lease of 124 Belgrave road (where the league has had its office for 12 years), for a number of years on favourable terms, j The house has been modernised and redecorated throughout and nine bedrooms are furnished with running hot and cold water in each room. It is in a convenient district for teachers travelling to schools in all parts of London. The rooms will be let for long or short periods to overseas teachers who may *be staying in London or passing through and it is the hope of the" committee that the new headquarters will always bo a real home to those staying there, while they arc so far away from their own. This venture has been made possible only by the help which has been given by Teachers' Associations and individuals in alj parts of the Empire. Many subscriptions have come from teachers who have been hero, on exchange and felt the need of such a place i in London. It is a great step forward in tho history of the league. For the last 18 months' the drawing-room has been the meeting-place of the Exchange Teachers' Club, for which a committee of English exchange teachers is responsible, and the club room offers an additional attraction to those living at the Home Centre. .The new headquarters will be opened by H.R.FT. Princess Louiso (Duchess of Argyll), patron of the league.
