SOCIAL. To celebrate the coming-of-age of their son Henry, Mr and Mrs J. J. Stevens, held an enjoyablo party in their home, "Landsdowne," Lower Riccarton, recently. The timo passed pleasantly in games and dancing. The customary toasts wero honoured and a gold key was presented to Mr Stevens. The usual fortnightly social and dance of the Riccarton Oddfellows was held in their hall on Tuesday. Mr H. Extou was Master of Ceremonies, and Mr F. Ashby played tho dance music. The competition winners wero Mcsdames Ansell and J. Bryce, and Messrs F. Fuller and Woodfield. Harvest Services. The Clarence road Methodist Church was decorated with fruit, vegetables, and produce, when on Sunday large cougrcgatioim attended tho annual harvest thanksgiving services. In tho morning the Rev. H. L- Blamtres was the preacher, and the Rev. J. F. Jack officiated at tho evening service. Tho choir, conducted by Mr C. Pilling, sang suitable hymns, and Mr A. Clark, A.T.C.L., was tho organist on both occasions. Wnarenui School Committee. The monthly mcctiug of tho Wharenui School Committee was held in the school on Tuesday. Mr P. G. Stringer (chairman) presided, and others present were Mrs B. A. Hawthorne, Messrs A. Falconer, E. Hansen, W. L. Macphersou, A. H. McLeod, D. Swanston, and E. Prcbblc (honorary secretary). The resignation of Miss D. Miller was accepted with regret. Reference was made to the work of Mr Parsonage in his efforts to encourage swimming among the children, and it was decided to send him a letter of appreciation. A statement of accounts for the annual concert and picuic was approved. The chairman reported on his interview with the director of dental services to discuss tho establishment of a clinic at the school. It was decided that the committee should take no action. The report on tho meeting of the School Committees' Association was approved. The headmaster reported that the total number of pupils on the roll was 420, with an average attendance of 3DC. There wore a few cases of sickness in tho school district. Twelve scholars had gained swimming certificates during the season. Sunday School Picnic. The annual picnic of tho Village Methodist Sunday School was held in tho Public Gardens in overcast but fino weather. There was a largo crowd present and a programme of races was held. Tho arrangements were in the hands of Mrs J. A. Hyndman, Miss J'. Taggart, and Messrs P. G. Clements, and R. McAllister.
