THE CANTERBURY REGIMENT.
CAMP AT KAHUNA. The third day of the First Battalion Canterbury Regiment's camp at Kaituna again proved fine, and the men are thoroughly enjoying their stay under canvas. Field firing was again carried out by the various companies, aud intensive training is being done in. preparation for the night operations which will be carried out under actual service conditions tonight. A part of yesterday 'a training was the practice in the use of gas masks; an altogether new feature in the training of territorials. The masks used are of the latest pattern, much "improved on the type used during the war, and will give absolute protection against all gases except mustard gas
The inter-company competitions are proving of great interest to the men, the cross-country run attracting a large number of starters. The competitions arc comprehensive, and include company drill, tents and lines inspection, cross-country run, platoon drill, and tabloid sports. D company is at present leading with a total of 74J points.
To-day should prove to be one of the most interesting days, as the cooperation with aircraft will be done, preceded by a lecture by Squadron Loader J. L. Findlay. The 4th (Army Co-operation) Squadron is detailing aeroplanes to fly over the camp and carry out various manoeuvres. A concert party from the Returned Soldiers Association visited the camp on Wednesday evening and gave a most enjoyable concert to the men. A large number of local residents were the guests of the camp. It is anticipated that a considerable number of lricnds and visitors will take the opportunity of visiting the camp on Sunday.
