RELIEF IN THE COMING WINTER.
MAYORS OF CHRISTCHLRCH AND DUNEDIN CONFER. Tn accordance with arrangements made by telegraph on Wednesday the Mnyor of < 'hristehurch (Mr U. (i. Sullivan, M.P.J met the Mayor ..I: Dunedin (Mr U. H. Black) on the railway station last night and discussed with him sonic of thy problems with which the cities of the -Dominion are confronted in dealing with unemployment relief works. Mr Black was on his way to Wellington to interview the Ministor for Employment (the Hon. Adam Hamiltou) and the Unemployment Board with regard to the relief of unemployment in the cities during llic coming winter. Mr Sullivan, through pressure of his engagements, was not able to accompany Mr Black to Wellington. Mr Sullivan, when seen afterwards by a representative of "The Press," said that lie had a talk with Mr Black nnd it appeared that the difficulties of Dunedin were the same as those of! Christehurch—the difficulty of hading money to meet overhead charges, material, supervision, tools, and so forth. For every £IOO received by the Duncdin City Council from tho Unemployment Board's funds the council had to find iron. £-•"> to £25. This difficulty was greater in Christehurch by reason of the fact that; more material was required than in hilly cities. 'Tn representing to the Minister and the Unemployment Board the difficulties of tho Dunedin City Council Mr Black practically would be representing the difficulties of the other cities of the Dominion.
