CANTERBURY A. AND P. ASSOCIATION.
♦ COMMITTEE'S ANNUAL REPORT. The general committee of the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association, in its annual report, expresses regret that it is not possible to show a profit on tho year's working, though the position is better by £&00 compared with 1931. "With a decidedly smaller turnover," says the report, "a better profit was made with tho last show, compared with the roval show in 1931. Economies in the cost" of running the show wore made, and there was a reduction in expenditure on practically every head. Reductions were made in entrance and space fees." With the means at its disposal, the committee has endeavoured to maintain its grounds in good order. In view of the financial conditions ruling, the committee had made arrangements further to reduce office expenditure in consonance with tho receding income.
The membership of the association stands at Jsa4, made up of 368 life members and 1164 annual members. The sixth winter show, conducted under the joint auspices of the Canterbury Manufacturers' Association and the Agricultural and Pastoral Association, resulted in a profit of £286 7s lid. The amount had not yet been allocated, but a request had been receive*} that the Agricultural and P-'toral Association forgo Its claims to a half-share in order that-the amount should go towards paying the debenture interest of the Canterbury Hall Company, Ltd. It is proposed to' hold the shew again in
King Edward Barracks in August of this year. The ram fair in 1932 was successful, though generally breeders had to accept lower prices. Metropolitan Show. The metropolitan show was field on November 10 and 11, and drew a really good entry. The stock was well up to the standard of the metropolitan show, aad the entry of light
horses was a record. The grand parade was an inspiring sight, and was very favourably commented upon by visitors. In 1931 the association instituted a Southdown flock competition, and certificates were given to flock owners whoso flock scored a proportion of points allotted. This year an English Leicester competition was held, and it was well supported, there being eight. entries. The association, during J&nnarTj con-
ducted a competition for export lambs on behalf of the New Zealand Meat Producers' Board, and the North Canterbury district will be represented by a good representation of lambs at Smithficld, where the awards will be made.
