Acceptances for the trotting events on the Oainaru ..'ockey Club's programme will close to-morrow a I S p.m. Derby Trial at Oainaru. At the meeting of the board of the New Zealand Trotting Association held yesterday a letter was received from the Oamaru Trotting Club notifying its iuteut.ion of including'on the programme for its Labour Day meeting to be held on October 'J3, a race for thrce-ycar-old horses, over a distance of a mile and a quarter for a stake of 'JSO sovs, the race to be culled the Derby Trial. Nominations of 1 sov would close on April 10, forfeit of 1 sov closing July 31, and the linal payment on general acceptance day, October 17. It was decided that this lace should be approved, and Mr J. 11. Williams, president of the board, commended the club on its enterprise in providing a race of this description. Three-year-old Winner. Derby Thorpe, winner of the Lvlies' Bracelet Handicap at the Mauawatu Trotting.Club's meeting held yesterday, scorecLliiH first success in that eveht. He is a three-year-old gelding by "Nehon Derby from Biddy Thorpe, and is raced on lease by the flutt Park trainer, L. O. Thomas. His winning form was heralded by his third placing at the Wairarapa meeting on Saturday. This was his first glimpse of form since he. finished fourth in last season's New Zealand Sapling Stakes, but now that he is in winning vein he may race up to the early promise lie showed. Blenheim-trained. Showing consistent but not very lucky form at the Marlborough. Wellington, and Wairai'apu meetings, Hello o' Mine was duly rewarded with anvin iu the Manawatu Cup yesterday. Owned by Mr A. Pope and trained by W. Pope at Blenheim, Belle o' Mine is a six-year-old mare by Denis Child from Wairoa Belle. The little-known Denis Child is by Neil Dennis (sire of Marshal Neil;, who is by Galiudo from Thclmn, and his dam is Xada K. Neil'Dennis i* a brother to the Southland sire Waverley, and to Cameos, who produced Onyx. Melbourne Classic Result. The pacing division of the Melbourne Derby (one mile) was won by Star Princess, by C+lobc Derby from Starland. The race, which was in two heats and a final, was decided in a run-off between the two heat winners, Star Princess ami (la Pronto, the former winning easily in 2min 23sec. Her time in the heat was ilmin 18Jsee. The trotting division was won by Curl, a gelding by Wilbur Lou from the imported inure, Carlotta the Great, iu "min lS7i«ce. Carl is trained end was driven by G. Garth* who visited New Zealand with a nmuil team last season, winning peveral races' during his \i-it. Change of Ownarslup. The hordes which previously raced iu the ownership of Miss ft. Hinds Will in future iace iu tho name of Mr K. P. C. Hinds. These horses include Harold Logan, Tactless, and Nghigongingo. Mr Hind;* has also applied for an amateur i trainer's license. Richly Mare. Carlotta the Great, dam of Carl, winner of the trotting division of the Melbourne Derby, was imported from America by the well-known New South Wales breeder, Mr if. C. Simpson, owner of Carl. She is by Peter the Great from Mary .Dillon, by Sydney Dillon (sire of Harold Dillon, famous New Zealand sire), from Carlotta, the dam of four 2min lUsec horses. Carl is regarded by Australian critics as the best trotter of his age produced for years. Mr Simpson deserves his good fortune in possessing this trotter, as he has been importing horses from America for many years, among those being the sire and the dam of tho Derby winner. His latest importation is-"Louis Direct, hniu .W{soc. Second in Heat. The New Zealand-bred filly, Pendant, by Native King from Belle Logan, was a starter in the pacing division of the Melbourne Derby, but she was not expected to play a vary prominent part in the decision as she had hardly done sufficient work and racing to fit her for the event. However,'despite those shortcomings she finished second to TTa Pronto in the second liest. An Opportunity For Prospective Buyers. Kod Shadow, to be offered by public auction to-morrow at 7.30 p.m., must be considered one of tho host racing propositions in the Dominion. Only a five-year-old, he is eligible for competition in all the largest endowed races in New Zealand, and no doubt he has an excellent future. He, has a record of 4miu 18 2-530e, which is believed to be the world's stallion race record, and he is still tho holder of an Australian and New Zealand record for three-year-olds. Red Shadow has won more money than any other horao of his ago ever* raced in the Dominion, ho always goes away well in a race, and is equally at home in fust or heavy going. - With records such as lie has, and being handicapped on 2min 7sec for a mile, 2min 40scc for it mile and a quarter, and 4min 24sec for two miles, he should solicit spirited bidding when he is submitted for sale to-morrow evening at Tattersall's Horse Bazaar.

(iOR!.':, March I.'. After lireaking at the start, Beatrice Bingen settled-down and practically led all the way in the Ferry Handicap for unhoppled trotters, -but was tiring badly at the finish. She broke halfway down the straight, and both "Fern Lee and Imperial Wave beat her. Happy Knight, :t good favourite in the Novice Handicap, was never sighted. After following Martello for more than a mile, Lindmm took charge mid won easily from two other outsiders, Firecrest and Bronze Wave, and returned a handsome dividend. Leua Thorp« was backed to a short price for the Tois Tois Handicap, but after taking the lead for half a mile stopped, badly Over the last two furlongs, and Young Frank just got up to beat Gold Era, with Quita, who broke in the straight, close up.
<"»irvan started an odda-ou favounti' for (he Trotting (Hub LTandicap, being over four times better backed than Seaworthy or Lady Voison, and appeared to have the race in hand when lie took charge at ;> mile. Half a mile from home he began to stop, and Prairie King, Seaworthy, Blue Mountain, and Erin's Princess, led him into the straight. Seaworthy won easily by five lengths, showing improved form coinpared with his Invorcargill Knowing. Blue Mountain lost a little at the start. but. not enough to affect the race. Girvan was very distressed on pulling up, and 'was in a bad way for an hour after the race. Just. Shandi. slightly less fancied than Chcehaheo, scored very easily in the Ldendule Handicap, taking charge from I'irin ; s Star at the end of a mile. He won easing up. Lena Thorpe was never dangerous. The Menzieg Handicap for uuhoppled trotterg was quickly reduced to a match between Paul Bingen and Golden .Bingen. Tha former led to within a few strides of the post, where Golden Bingen, ranged alongside. Paul Bingen tungled and Golden Bingen beat him by a neck. Hakatere was more than 100 yards away. Just Johu. a hot favoarite for the President's Handicap, lost his chance at the start. . Black Shadow led All Sunshine until ten furlongs from home; then the latter took charge to the end, stalling off n good challenge from Guy ziah, to best him by a length and a
half. After hi* Tnvorcargill form the winner returned si falsely good price. .King's Cup was much better fancied for the Final Handicap, won by Elite Biugeii, than Girvan, or Mocast, but lost bis chance when Grey ■ Girl crossed Bllegro and interfered with him at the end of two furlongs. Girvan broke when going well three furlongs from home. Guide do Oro went his best race on the trip, and was only beaten by a neck for second money. MANAWATU T.C.
