LONDON WOOL SALES.
GOOD ENGLISH COMPETITION. (UNITED FREDS ASSOCIATION—B* ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH —COPIBIGHT.) • LONDON, March 14. At the wool sales, 9027 bales were offered, including 3301 from New Zealand, and approximately 4110 were sold. There was a poor selection of Merinos, but a good lot of crossbreds. There was a large attendance of buyers representing the Home trade, who were competing freely, but Continental buyers bought rather sparingly. Compared with the February closing sales, greasy merinos were 5 per cent, lower, fine merinos 5 per cent, lower, and medium and coarse merinos 7} to, 10 per cent, lower.
Prices: New Zealand greasy, merino, Birchil, !)M top, 9d average; greasy halfbred, Ngaio Downs, 95d top, i)d average.
The New Zealand farmers' Cooperative Association of Canterbury, Limitod, has received the following cablegram from its London office: "London wool sales opened to-day, and prices as compared with last London series are as follows:—Merinos, par to 5 per cent, lower; fine crossbreds, 7£ per cent, lower; medium and coarse crossbreds, 5 to 1.0-per cent, lower. Good competition at the lower -rates. Total quantities available for tho series, 101,000 bales."
Messrs Pyne, Gould,,Guinness, Limited, report haying, received the following cablegram, from their London brokers:. . '■.-'■•■'■/: ■■'■':'■'
"At the London 'wool sales which opened to-day there was a large attendance, Bradford being th« principal buyer and the Continent also operating. As compared with last series closing rates we quote merino id cheaper, half bred. 2d cheaper, three-quarterbrcd and fine crossbred 4d cheaper, and coarse crossbred Jd cheaper."
Tho New Zoaland Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, Christ-, church, has received a cablegram from its London oflico giving the following information:—
" There was a good attendance at the opening of the sales to-day, competition by Home and Continental buyers being restricted, and prices as compared with the close of the preceding series ruled-generally 3d lower. The opening catalogues were fairly representative. '' The Bank of New Zealand has received the following advice from its London office, dated March 14:— "Tho sales have opened with dull and inactive bidding and the demand is irregular. Compared with the close of last series prices are id lower." The National Mortgage and Agency Co. of New Zealand, Ltd., have received cable advice from their London office; regarding the wool sales opening yesterday as follows: The auctions opened here to-day with a large attendance of buyers. Compared with the closing rates of last sale: All descriptions of greasy wools- are about id to \d lower. Scoured merinos, |d to ijd lower. Scoured crossbreds, id lower. Slipe wools generally, id lower. As at present arranged sales close on March 31. Messrs Dalgety and Company, Limited, ■ Christchurch, have received the following messago from their London office, dated March 14: "The London wool sales opened with good competition, average . attendance of buyers, and a fair selection of wools; Home trade were principal operators. At the wool sales 10,097 bales were offered and of these 8438 were sold and 1238 disposed of privately. The market was very firm. German, Japanese, and Yorkshire buyers were the principal operators. Spot ~ 17-J 17 11-16 Forward .. 17 13-16 17$ POULTRY AND EGGS. , G. H. Bradford, Limited, poultry and ogg market, 118 Tuam street, report very large yardings of poultry for tho'-week. The market held yesterday was one of the largest held on a Wednesday, and quantities did not Btop prices from rising. Good boiling hens, ducklings, and turkeys are still in short supply. The following prices lvere realised:—Table chicken, light \2s 6d to 6s 6d, heavies 6s 6d to 10s-, hens, light 2a 3d to 3s 6d, heavies 3s 9d to 5s 3d; ducks, 3s 6d to 7s; turkeys, hens 9s to 13s; gobblers, 14s to 235; all at per pair. Eggs have taken, a sharp rise and prices were: Firuts and ducks Is sd, seronds Is 4d. —8 PROPERTY SALES.
