RELIEF WORKERS.
THE MAYOR CRITICISED. Criticism of the Mayor of Christchurch (Mr D. G. Sullivan, M.P.) for his attitude on * unemployed relief, was expressed at a mass meeting of relief workers who are at present standing down, in the Trades Hall yesterday afternoon. About SJO" men attended the meeting, and passed the following resolution '•This mass meeting of -unemployeu strongty condemns tiie action of the Mayor m continuing to ta&e tiie r«sponsibiltiy oif the state in providing ail unemployed with food, clothing, and shelter, by continuing his policj of collecting hnance to support reuui depots, thereby directly worsening thv standard of living for all other workers, and stifling the rising: militancy of tn* unemployed.'' The meeting pussed another resolution, in. which it was decided to ir.v to get every unemployed man to refuse to fill in the means test form, recently issued by the DnemploymeniBoard. ' fc, Mr F. H. Grant stated at the meeting that he had interviewed Mr P. R. Clitnic, a member of the board, who had told him that no reply had been received from the borfrd to the representations made by the Christchurc-' unemployed for full sustehanee_ for men standing down when local bodies could not provide work for them. Mr Cliim« assured Mr Grant thnt he would have the matter placed before the board as soon as possible.
