WEDDINGS.

BROWN—M'GRATH. About 300 guests assembled at St. Mary and St. Francis do Sales Catholic Church, Kangiora, to show their kindly interest in tho wedding of Annie Margaret, eldest daughter of Mr and Mra T. McGrath, Church Bush, Kaiapoi, and Leslie John, second son of Mr and Mrs M. J. Brown, Ohapuku. Nuptial Mass was celebrated by the Rev. Father Leen, assisted by Father Kilgour and Father O'Connor. Miss Dorothy Brady was the organist. During the ceremony Miss K. Cassidy sang "Ave Maria." The church had been beautifully decorated by the bride's friends-with pink asters and greenery, and a wedding bell of white and pink asters hung over the bridal party. The bride, who entered the church with her father, wore a picture frock of white georgette and lace over satin made with a frilled bodice and long sleeves, and fully flared skirt, inset with frilled godets which formed a frilled train trimmed with satin bows. Her beautiful embroidered tulle veil fell from a cap of pale pink and white roses and formed a train three yards long. She carriod a shoaf of lilies, begonias, and maidenhair fern.' Two flower girls, Erin and Colleen Brown, the bridegroom's nieces, woro long picture frocks of white net over satin, made with puff sleeves and trimmed with frills edged with blue satin ribbon. Their sashes were of blue satin ? and they wore coronets of pearls and carried armlets of carnations. The bride's sisters, Misses Esther and Doreen McGrath, were dressed alike in rose pink georgette frocks »trimmed with satin and ecru lace frills, with cape collars crossed- over, in front and tied in bows at the back. Their picture hats of tuscan lace straw were underlined with pink georgette, and the brims were caughj up-with pink roses. They carried sheafs of pink bpgonias and lilies. As tho bride left tho church she was presented with a lucky horseshoe by the bridegroom's niece, Molly JBrown. The bridegroom was attended by Mr Clem Lynskey, of Eangiora, as best man, and Mr M. Ryan, q£ Christchurch, as groomsman. A reception was held afterwards by Mr and Mrs McGrath at their home, where a marquee was erected, the decorative scheme being carried out with pink asters and hydrangeas. Mrs McGrath received her guests wearing a navy tunic frock of romaino with draped lace collar and tucked vestee of grey georgette. She wore an ostrich feather ruffle and navy hat, and carried a bouquet of French marigolds. The bridegroom's mother, Mrs M. Brown, wore a gown of,black ma;ocain relieved with white, and a hat of black bangkok straw trimmed with pink and white flowers. She carried a bouquet of pink carnations and maidenhair fern. Mrq L. Coup (Masterton), the bride's aunt, wore a frock and coat of black corded silk, and a hat of black raeello straw trimmed with bands of red and fawn. The bride's .travelling frock was of royal blue crepe satin with a double collar and sleeves of wool lace, with a eoatee trimmed with gold. Her blue felt hat was trimmed with a gold feather mount amd finished with an eye veiL Her coat was of musquash fur,

, PEARCE—DALZIELL. The marriage was celebrated on Thursday morning at the Sacret Heart Basilica, Hill street, Wellington, of Margaret, daughter of Mrs and the late Mr F. G. Dalziell, and granddaughter of the late Dr. Grace, and John Wardell, youngest s6n of Mr George Pearce, Lower Hutt. The Rev. Father Higgins, S.M., performed the ceremony and celebrated Nuptial Mass/l Miss Milligan was organist, and Mrs W. S. Pearco sang a solo.

Tho bride, who was escorted by her uncle, Mr. Eussell Grace (Wanganui),wore a beautiful frock of white lace plainly cut with gracefully flared skirt and long-sleeved bodice simulating a bolero . jacket. Her plain tulle veil formed a train, and she carried a sheaf of white .roses and carnations. - Her cousin, Miss Grace, was bridesmaid, and their were two small maids, Pamela and Ann Anson (nieces of the bridegroom). Miss Grace wore a picture frock of lime-green figured organdi and a wide-brimmed green hat. She carried a sheaf of pastel tinted flowers.. The two small children were dressed in long white organdi frocks, frilled from the waist to hem. Mr laii Pearco' attended • his brother as best man; and Messrs Dick Wardell (Masterton) and John Eiddiford (Feathorston) were ushers. t

Mrs Dalziel! wore a black lace frock and a black hat. Mrs George Pearco wore a black lace frock and a black hat. Mrs lan Duncan (aunt of tho bride) wore a black crepe de chine frock with a long, black coat, and a black, hat with touches of white. Mrs Woodroffe wore navy and white floral crepe de'chine frock with a-shoulder cape, and. a smart sailor hat. Miss Agnes Duncan wore a frock of* primrose yellow wool romaine with a short cape and a black hat and black accessories. The bride travelled in a smart threepiece suit of leaf-green lairiage, tho waistcoat being of white crepe de chine patterned with green squares. The same material lined the coat, and she wore a small green hat.

DANCE AT ST. ALBANS. i ; " ~ A very suecessftil dance was hold at St. Matthew's Hall, St. Albans, to help the fund for the Sunday School queen" Messrs Watson, Reeve, and Dixey were responsible ror the arrangements, and Stamler's band, kindly supplied the music. . The Rev. J. F. Feron thanked tko.-o present for their support, and those who were responsible for the success of the gathering, especially the band, and Messrs Barrell and Mabgood, who supplied the extras. An exhibition foxtrot was given : by Mr L. West and Miss Elaine Case. A. W. V. Reeve was master of ceremonies. Monte Carlos weTe won by Mr J. Gill and Miss P. Palmer, and Miss M. Butterfield and partner. PARTY AT SPREYDON. Au enjoyable evening party was giv-siv by Mrs A. Hobbs, Boulton avenue, in honour of lier niece, Miss Doris Woledge, whose marriage will take place next week. Many gifts were received by the guest of honour. The evening was spent in games and competition?, and musical itenjs were given by Misses G. and M. Shier and Jewel Hobbs, and Mr Ken Hobbs. Thoso present wore Mesdames Woledge. COMING-OF-AGE PARTY. On Thursday evening Mrs King, of ihe Main road, Redcliffs, gave a party in honour of tho eoming-of-age of her daughter, Zona. A ple&y&ivt evening was spent in games, dancing, and singing. Items were given by Misses Winnie Parks, Zena King, Betty I'alconar, and Mr Laurie King. MARDI GRAS CARNIVAL. This jift-ernoon a Mardi Gras carnival in St. Michael's Church grounds, Oxford terrace, is to be opened by the Mayor (Mr D. G. Sullivan, M.P.), at 2.30. The object of the carnival is to raise funds for St. Michael's Church day school. There will be many well-stocked stalls and numerous sideshows, and a baby show is to be held during the afternoon. The carnival is to continue on Monday and Tuesday afternoon and evening, but if the weather be wet tile various functions connected with the carnival will bo held in the parish hall.

SURPRISE PARTY. A surprise party visited the home of Mrs M. M. Blackburn, Peverel street,. Lower Riccarton, recently. Various sub-committees were set up" 'at the first committee meeting of tho Woodend Ladies' Auxiliary, hold at Mrs Ellen's home on Thursday afternoon. MeSdames A. Edwards, H. "Little, J. Crawford, C, Payne, P. Morriss, and Miss L. Hewitt were elected an exchange committee. Mrs Tomlirison was appointed librarian. Mrs Harley Little and Miss Laura Hewitt were made trustees- The funds of the branch, it was decided, are to be deposited in the Woodend Post Office. Mrs J. Crawford and Mrs F. McQuellan were elected a household gdide committee, and Mesdamcs C. Payne, F. Shalders, J. Little, and (Misses Herridge and 'Archer were chosen for the. entertainment committee.
