OBITUARY.

MRS E. W. BORJESON. The death occurred yesterday at Christchurch, at the age of 87 years, of Mrs Emma Woods Borjeson. Born in London in 1840, Mrs Borjeson was the daughter of a solicitor in that city, Mr Richard Hare, and came to NewZealand with her sister, Mrs S. Kenster. of Warrington street, St. Albans, in 187". Soon after her arrival Mrs Borjeson went jto the est Coast with her husband, who was well known as a gold miner there. In. 1897 Mr and Mrs Borjeson made a trip to London, and while they were away Mr Borjeson died. His widow returned to New Zealand, and came to Christchurch 20 years ago. Mrs Borjeson had a wide circle of friends on the West Coast, and. leaves nieces and nephews in Greymouth. A number of her children and grand-children are living in ChristMEMBERS OF CARMELITE ORDER. PURCHASE OF PROPERTY. On Tuesday morning seven nuns of the Carmelite Order arrived in Christchbrch from Australia, and. alter Ijejng welcomed by dignitaries of the Catholic Church, in Wellington and Christehiirch, took up residence temporarily at the Convent ot the Sisters of the Good Shepherd, Mount Magi'esterdav it was announced that, of the many City and suburban properties offered for sale to them, the nuns had. decided to buy one at- the terminus of the Lincoln road tramline and found a convent there. The house ou the property, which is gix and a half acres in extent, is two-storeyed, and contains 11 rooms. It is set in a large garden, with wide lawns and flower gardens, surrounded with fine old trees, and adjoining a good orchard and wellgrassed fields. It is considered that the building will fteed onlv minor alterations to meet the requirements of trie Community, but it is likely that n chapel, connected with the house, will short.lv he erected.

PANTRY PARTI. ' Mr and .U rs H. I jiinan. of Templeton, entertained a number of friends at their home in honour of Miss Doris Musgrove. whose marriage to Mr A. Gilberthorpe takes plr.ee shortly. Mackie (Hornby), A. Mnelcie, and A. Musgrove.

SCOUTS' SOCIAL. The North Beach boy scouts held a most successful social and dance in tho Peace Memorial Hall, North Beach. There was an attendance of 120. . All the arrangements were carried out by the boys of the troop, and Master P. Seymour was M.C. Music was supplied by Miss M. Ottey.

The marriage of' Miss Mary Elisabeth Richards, elder daughter of the late Mr Boland Richards, and of Mrs W. H. Wallis, Welwyn Garden City, Herts, England, to Mr Donald Carter -will be celebrated at Welwyn Garden City to-day. Miss Richards is a granddaughter of Mr Walter I». Clifford, of Garden road, Fendalton, Christchurch. She visited Christchurch about five years ago and spent a year with her grandfather. Mr Carter is a producer in British Instructional Films, Welwyn, Herts.
