A yacht race from Lyttelton to Pigoti.-i Bay, a distance flf approximately '2 miles, without talcing boating to windward into account, will be held by tlw Banks Peninsula * Cruising Club this afternoon, for the cup presented by Mi Howard Sladen. The yachts will be dispatched to a flying start through the moles at Lyttelton at 2.45 p.m-, and must leave t.ho whistling buoy at the Heads on the star* board hand- The finishing line will be at the end of Mr E. Hay's wharf «-t Pigeon Bay, where the tiiries will be taken by Mr T. Scott. Yachts finishing after dark must hail the wharf.' On finishing* the competitors will anchor for th'o night in Holmes's Bay. , The race will not be held if t!io wind is nor '-west, or obviously too light to finish the race in reasonable time, and if conditions outside the Heads are box suitable to continue the race it will bo declared off by the scratch yacht, M:irangi, turning into Port Levy or back to Lyttelton. Canterbury Yacht and Motor-Boat Club, sailing races for girls and women skippers. 1 Peninsula Cruising Club, sailing race to Pigeon Bay. 3.0 p.m. and 8.0 p.m., Harbour Light Theatre, "The Unexpected Father." 8.0 p.m., Clrtb Hall, Lyttelton Club dance. To-morrow: — . Lyttelton Club picnic at Allandale. Returned Soldiers' Association pienic at Purau. Police picnic at Quail Island. i Picnics. The annual picnic of the Fendaltou School was held "at Diamond Harbour yesterday, the attendance being 600. Perfect weather conditions prevailed, and bathing and sports were held. The girls of the Christchurch Technical College held a picnic at C&rsair Bay yesterday. Church Services. Harvest thanksgiving services will be held at St. Saviour's Church, West Lyttelton, to-morrow. The preacher at the evening service will" be the Eev, L. A. Tooley, vicar of St. John's, Woolston, "Sunday Picnics and Christian Standards," will be the subject of ■an address by the Rev. A. H, Fowles at the evening service at the Methodist Chureh to-morrow. Harbour Light Theatre. That inimitable comedy pair, Slim Summerville and Zasu Pitts, will be seen at their best at the Harbour Light Theatre this afternoon and evening in "The Unexpected Father." The story is a mirth-making one.'of-a mix-up of an oilrwell and a baby, which leads to some side-splitting situations. The short (subjects include two .editions of Universal News, a C'inesound Australian Newsreel, a detective thriller, "The Red.Shadow," and a comedy.
