FIRES.

FOUR SMALL OUTBREAKS. Four calls to grass . and scrub fir # es were made to the Qentral Fire brigade yesterday, but in no case was there any serious damage done. The first call was received at 11 a.m. to a vacant section at the corner, of Morris street and Avonside drive,. .Avonside, where an area of about two acres of grass end scrub was burnt. The section was surrounded by houses, but the brigade prevented the spreading of the blaze, on which several leads of hose were directed. At 2.45 p.m. there was a call to a section at' the corner oi •Terrold street and Hillier street, Aldington, where there was a grass fire. Fifteen minutes later the brigade went to 23 Cross street, Linwood, to a fire in a . hedge and a paling fence. Tills fire was extinguished after thirty feet of each fence had been destroyed, Ai 7 o'clock last night there was another hedge and grass fire at 66 Barrington street, but no great damage was done.
