Bush fires have been raging in the Kangarilla and Kuitpo forest districts, and have destroyed thousands of aeree of the richest grassland, several hundred sheep and cattle, many miles of fencing, and tons of firewood. Over 5000 fire-fighters worked throughout the day and night keepiijg the flames in check.' They saved Sir Douglas Mawson's hardwood mill and other private mills. Bush fires in the Middle North also destroyed several flocks of sheep and burned out vnluablo grassland. COMMONWEALTH TRADE WITH NZ. Lyons (Prime Minister) announced that following a discussion, by Cabinet on trad© with New Zealand, a cablegram had been sent to the Prime Minister of the Dominion (the Et. Hon. G. W. Forbes) inviting him to send a Minister to Australia for. the purpose of conferring with the Commonwealth Ministers. POST OFFICE THEFT. LARGE SUM LEFT BEHIND. SYDNEY, February 23. Safe-breakers entered the George Street West Post Office in the city last night and inserted a large charge of explosive in the lock of the safe door, which was blown off. The office furniture was wrecked, the explosion being heard throughout the neighbourhood, and the thieves, apparently becoming frightened, left hurriedly, stealing only £2O. They le*t more than £3OO in the safe. j THEATRE DESTROYED. BRISBANE, February 23. Damage estimated in excess .« £30,000 was done by a fire which destroyed the Empire Theatre at loowoomba. BUTTER-FAT RECORD. (Received 1 February 23, 10.20 p.m.) SYDNEY, February 23. An Australian record for her breed and age has been established by a. two years and eight months old Ayrshire cow, owned by Korff Brothers, of Campbelltown. In two years she produced 11,9581b of niilk, with an average test of 4.2 per cent., equivalent to #7.oSlb o/ tmtter-ffct.
