CURRENT NOTES. Mrs Treherne-Thomas (England; is visiting Christchurch and is the guest of Miss Isabel Turrell, Fendalton. Sir Francis and Lady Boys -will leave on Thursday for England. ' Mra Guy Pascoe (Oxford terrace) ■will leave on Wednesday to visit Mrs Percy Acton-Adams, Clarenee Reserve, Kaikonra. ■ Mr and Mrs T. Otto Jacobsen (London), who are the guests of Mr and Mrs R. L. M. Kitto, Holly road, will leave by the Akaroa on March & on their j roturn journey to England. Mrs G. Veal ' (Government House, | Wellington), who is at present the guest of Miss Olive Mellraith, St. Elmo i Courts, will leave on Monday to visit friends in South Canterbury. Westall (Riccarton) has returned from a visit to Auckland and Hawke's Bay. Mrs J. B. Beckett ("Almora," Victoria street) has returned from the North Island, where she was visiting her daughter. Mrs Gregg, Raetihi, and her Bister, Mrs Goldingham, Palmerston North. Miss L. H. Lean (Cambridge terrace) lias returned from a visit to the Franz Josef glacier. Dr. and Mrs 11. V. Drew, who arrived from the Chatham Islands last week, are spending several months on holiday in New Zealand. Miss Nelle M. Scanlan (London;, the well-known author and journalist, arrived in Christchurch yesterday, and is •staying at the United Service Hotel. Mrs F. A. Nixon (Fendalton), who has been visiting her sisters, the Misses Bullen, "The Lakes," Kaikoura, will return to Christchurch on Tuesday. Mrs A. Bridgewater (Timaru), who has been visiting friends in Christchurch, returned homo yesterday. Miss A. Cookson, Lady Superintendent of the Wellington Hospital, will arrive in Christchurch this morning to visit her sister, Mrs F. W. Freeman, "Jesmond," Cashmere Hills. Miss Nancy Hartmann, who has been visiting Mrs Bernard Chambers and Mrs Frank Nelson, Hawke's Bay, has returned to North Canterbury. Miss Edna Barrett (Brown's road) has returned from a visit to her brothers at "The Poplars," North Canterbury. Miss Anne Starky (Whitccliffs) is the guest of Mrs A. C. Alexander, also a life member of the Cholmondeley Home. Miss Alexan- [ der had been for many years a member ! of the committee of the convalescent cottage, and continued her interest in and work for the home until the time of her death. There will be many attractions at the garden party to be held tomorrow in the grounds of Mr and Mrs 1 A. K. Hadiiekl 's home, '' Te Wharekoa," 26 Banks avenue, Shirley. The fact that this is the champion garden of Christchurch should prove of interest to garden-lovers, and' other attractions include a children's fancy dress competition, novel sideshows, tennis, character reading, musical pro•gramme, cake stalls, etc. "Te Wharekoa" is looking beautiful at present, and this opportunity to inspect it should not be missed. The garden party, which will be opened by Mr. W. J. Walter at 2.30 p.m.. is being "held to augment the funds of the Shirley Methodist Church. TENNIS PARTY. HELP FOR CHOLMONDELEY HOME. Muny societies doing uaeMiJ work in Christehurcb. have, in the last few years, received much valuable help from the members of the Girls' Diocesan Association, whose activities are many and varied. Amongst those loudest in praise of the members' work is the committee of the Cholmondeley Memorial Children's Home, at Governor's Bay. Each winter, the association sends to the home parcels of well-made cosy garments, which are a boon to the small inmates. Yesterday they carried their interest further, and heia a very successful tennis party in aiu of the funds of the home. Courts were lent by the United Tennis Club, ana Miss Effie Travers, with her usual kind*ness and efficiency, arranged the tournament, which was carried out without a hitch. The members of the committee, who organised the tournament, were Misses Barbara Bloxam, Prue Wynn-Williams, Joan Cooper, Philippa Acland, Lois Ollivier, and Nancy Salraond. Those playing were Mrs E.
