"SWANK OF ENGLAND" NOTES.

Some months ago *, New Zealander laid information against two men whom he alleged had tried to get money from him by means of a confidence trick. The two accused men obtained bail but failed to put in an appearance when the case came up a second time in the Marlborough Street "Police Court in August. There was a sequel to this case at the same court yesterday, when Michael Patrick Duggan appeared on charges of possessing, without lawful excuse, printed paper resembling Bank of England notes, and conspiring with a man named Patrick Brenhan to steal money by means of the confidence trick. Duggan (38) was remanded for committal to the Old Bailey. Mr McCluro (prosecuting for the Bank of England) said that Duggan and Brennan were arrested in. Hyde Park in August while they wore talking to a Mr Eobinson, now in New Zealand. They were then remanded on bail for a week, but neither appeared. "Brennan," said counsel, "is, I am. afraid, abroad, and will never be found. Duggan was rearrested is Leeds on January 2." A Scotland Yard detective said that when he arrested the men in August Duggan had a newspaper cutting which showed that a Michael Duggan had recently inherited £400,000. He had also two packets of notes headed "Swank of England," and enclosed in a genuine £5 Bank of England note. Mr McClure. said he should like to apply for. a summons against the printer, and the Magistrate said he would grant a summons.
